What are Gold mobile numbers?

Gold Numbers is one of the five tiers VIP Numbers uses to group part of its range – Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond – and sits between Silver and Platinum. It is our own merchandising tier of memorable UK mobile numbers, not an official classification by Ofcom, the mobile networks or the wider industry.

Gold numbers are standard UK mobile numbers, not premium-rate service numbers; calls to them are charged as calls to a UK mobile.

What makes a number suitable for the Gold collection?

Each Gold number is chosen by hand for the way its digits fit together. The numbers in the collection at the time of writing are mostly built from structured, rhythmic groups of digits that are easy to say aloud and easy to picture, for example:

  • 07354 102030 – a counting group, ending 10 20 30.
  • 07706 302010 – the same idea in reverse, ending 30 20 10.
  • 07490 040004 – a framed repeat, read as 0749 004 0004.
  • 074 7060 7060 – a repeated block, with 7060 appearing twice.

Other Gold numbers include a short run such as 789, or 007 within a repeated group. There is no single formula: each number is judged on how cleanly it reads as a whole.

Gold vs Silver and Platinum mobile numbers

Silver is the tier directly below Gold, and Platinum the tier above it, with stronger, more distinctive patterns. Gold numbers are usually well structured, with digits arranged in counting groups, framed repeats or repeated blocks. The tiers are chosen on the character of each number rather than a fixed price boundary. Browse our Silver Numbers, or step up to Platinum Numbers.

Choosing a Gold mobile number

Say each number out loud and write it down. Points worth considering:

  • How easily it can be read out over the phone.
  • Whether you prefer a counting sequence, a repeated block or a framed repeat.
  • How it looks written down, on a business card, a vehicle or a website.
  • How quickly family, friends or customers will remember it.

If you are drawn to a particular pattern rather than a tier, you can also browse Sequential Numbers, 007 Numbers or all of our Available Numbers.

Buying and transferring a Gold number

Every number on this page is in stock and can be bought online. We send your PAC code the same day during service hours (9am–9pm UK time, 7 days a week); orders placed after 9pm receive it the following morning. You activate a SIM with the UK network you choose and give them the PAC code. When you submit the PAC to your network before 5pm on a working day, the transfer normally completes by 6pm on the following working day. The transfer itself is completed by the receiving network.

Gold mobile numbers: common questions

What is a Gold mobile number?

A Gold mobile number is an ordinary UK mobile number from the VIP Numbers Gold tier – our own selection of memorable numbers with structured, rhythmic digit patterns. Gold is a VIP Numbers merchandising tier, not an official Ofcom or network classification.

Is a golden number the same as a Gold number?

Buyers use both phrases for the same thing: a mobile number that is easy to remember. At VIP Numbers, Gold Numbers is the name of our tier between Silver and Platinum, and the numbers on this page are the ones we have placed in it.

What makes a number Gold at VIP Numbers?

Each number is chosen by hand for how cleanly its digits fit together – for example counting groups such as 10 20 30, framed repeats or repeated blocks. It is a judgement of the number as a whole rather than a fixed rule or price.

Can I use a Gold number on EE, O2, Vodafone or another UK network?

UK mobile numbers can be moved between UK networks using a PAC code. After you buy a Gold number, we send you its PAC code; you activate a SIM with the UK network you choose – such as EE, O2 or Vodafone – and give them the PAC code so they can transfer the number to your SIM.

How do I transfer a Gold mobile number?

We send your PAC code the same day during service hours (9am–9pm UK time, 7 days a week); orders placed after 9pm receive it the following morning. You activate a SIM with the UK network you choose and give them the PAC code. When you submit the PAC to your network before 5pm on a working day, the transfer normally completes by 6pm on the following working day.

Our standard procedure for providing customers with mobile numbers is by issuing a Porting Authorisation Code (PAC). PACs can be used immediately and enable your mobile network to legally transfer your new mobile number within 24 hours.
