Carrying two phones is cumbersome. A dual-SIM or eSIM setup lets you have two active numbers on a single device — one for personal calls, one for business, or one for daily use and one for status or privacy. You choose which number to call from and which to receive calls on.
A dual-SIM phone has two SIM slots (physical nano-SIM trays), or one physical SIM slot plus eSIM support. Both numbers are active simultaneously. When a call arrives, your screen shows which number it is coming in on so you can answer appropriately. When making a call, you choose which number to present.
The cleanest way to add a VIP number to your existing setup is via eSIM:
This avoids needing to choose between your two numbers — you simply have both. For a full explanation of how eSIM works and which handsets support it, see What Is an eSIM and Can I Use It for My VIP Number?
Most flagship and mid-range phones released after 2020 support eSIM. Key models include:
Running two numbers on one phone does not mean you have two active mobile contracts from us — your VIP number is a one-time purchase that you port to your chosen network on your existing tariff. It is not a requirement to use eSIM: if your phone does not support eSIM, a standard PAC code transfer activates the number on a physical SIM on any UK network. It also does not mean both numbers share the same data allowance — each SIM slot or eSIM profile runs on its own network plan independently.
When you purchase a number from VIP Numbers, request eSIM activation at checkout or by email after purchase — specify your preferred network (O2, Vodafone, EE or Three). We send you a QR code or activation details; installation takes under five minutes and your new number is active the same day (9am–9pm, seven days a week). For handset compatibility and full setup details, see our eSIM page.
If you prefer a physical SIM, we provide a PAC code which you give to any UK network. The number activates by end of the working day. For a full walkthrough of how PAC codes and number porting work, see our Number Porting UK guide.
